Winter
See the fjords from the top of a
snowcovered mountain
Snowshoeing is a great way to experience the arctic winter. On this sidechallenging tour we bring you to one of our neighboring mountains and hike on snowshoes for a great view of our fjords and archipelagos. Your guide will choose a suitable area for the day, giving you a summit view of the mountains and fjords in this region.
At the foot of the mountain we gear up with snowshoes and poles, before starting on the ascend. Walking on them is easy to learn and the going is easy once you get the hang of it. Our guides are local and experienced and will see that you are led up avoiding the avalanche danger that can be present in some areas. They will also share knowledge of the local conditions and surroundings, winter life in the arctic and the wildlife we might encounter. On the top we will have time to take in the mighty surroundings bathed in the magical winter light and to take some photos before starting on the descent. On the trip heading back we will keep our eyes open to maybe get a glimpse of a hare jumping over our tracks, a ptarmigan hiding between the trees, or an eagle soaring above us between the mountains.
We enjoy a hot beverage and a cinamon bun at the end of the tour in a cozy local cafe
This tour is arranged every Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the winter season.
Snow conditions on the coast change a lot during the season and we adjust along as well. In case of lacking or difficult conditions, we will sometimes choose to use snow cleats/chains on our hike. Before snowfall the trip will be conducted by foot.
