If you wonder how we northerners manage to stay strong through the winter then you should join in on this adventure. Skiing down a local mountain towards the sea is the ultimate arctic sea to summit adventure. During the start of the season you will be ascending in the blue hours of the day, giving you a panoramic view of the surrounding fjords. On the descent you will be skiingwith a strong headlamp, an impressive view both first and third-person. Your friends’ turns in the snow have never looked cooler as the snow is lit up by the light and the body surfs through the snow as shadow in the woods.

From end January the sun will be up long enough to give us spectacular sunset descents.

Tromsø has become the capital of ski touring in Norway. If you keep an eye out on the surrounding mountains of Tromsø you’ll notice the many headlamps. Some are moving faster than others and that’s because they’re skiing. With the right amount of know-before-you-go and good timing you’ll be able to step into those skis and be behind one of the headlamps and on the skis!

We start this tour from Tromsø center 9:30 and drive out to our winter camp by the foothills of the mountains. Your guide will get you suited- and geared up and ready for ski touring. The gear included this trip is:
Skis, poles, shoes, skins, helmet, googles, headlamp, avalanche gear
Ski pants & jacket available
Gloves & hats available

Polar night skiing can offer you a magical display of the city, snow, mountains, fjords and maybe even northern lights! We choose the place to go depending on the group and weather/snow conditions, but mostly we do around 400 vertical meters climb over 3-5 kilometers in easy terrain. Ascending from around 10:30 AM allows us to enjoy the few colorful hours where the sun is just above/on/below the horizon.

On our polar night ski touring you don’t need to be an expert skier or trained athlete, but we expect you to be able to ski blue slopes with confidence, be able to ski red slopes and have some experience skiing outside the slopes. If you do not meet these requirements we suggest that you have a look at our “nordic wilderness skiing for beginners”.
